June 14th
- Depart from Washington National Airport
- Arrive in Houston - Texas looked greener than I expected...
- Depart for San Jose
- Found other students in the airport and took a taxi to the hotel Balmoral
- Dinner at a local Costa Rican restaurant
- Meet and greet with teachers
June 15th
- Orientation session
- First Humans in the Tropics class
- First assignment: Explore San Jose via foot and the bus system. Buy a banana or plantain at the mercado central. Talk to Costa Ricans and have them fill out an ecological footprint survey. Calculate your own ecological footprint - easier if the internet was reliable!
- I went the mercado central, mall in San Pedro, and Universidad de Costa Rica. (last two places via bus)
- Had lunch at a small vegetarian restaurant.
- Present your fruit to the group and discuss ecological footprint results.
- Dinner at fancy Costa Rican restaurant - served a lot of Italian food!
- Packing for our 11 day field trip! We depart at 8 am tomorrow morning for Cerro de la Muerte and then Sierpe. Very limited access to internet, but that means the next post will be all the more interesting!
Adios amigos!
